Augustus was appointed as sole Roman emperor by the authority of the Senate. Jesus, however, needed no Senate, no presidential campaigning, and no electors. Jesus never became King – He had been King from the beginning of time. In other words, He was already a king when He was born. Before Him nobody had ever been born king, and nor has anyone since. Earthly rulers only become king and receive royal authority when they are crowned. Nobody ever crowned Jesus, except with thorns. In fact, in a strange reversal of earthly logic, there will be a coronation day for those who live for Christ (2 Tim 4:8). Jesus will crown them, but they will never crown Him. He derives His authority from nobody. He is what He is – all-sufficient, El Shaddai. He told the disciples, “You did not choose me, but I chose you” (Jn 15:16). He did not come as a candidate for a political position and we are not His acceptance committee. Luke drops a bold hint in Acts 17:6-7. In Thessalonica certain people complained that the disciples were turning the world upside down “acting contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying there is another king – Jesus” (Acts 17:7). There was! With far more to offer mankind than Caesar ever had! Be blessed. REINHARD BONNKE

Remember a King has called you to live for him, don’t take it lightly, in this world you will face many troubles, but take heart, he has overcome the world. It’s not easy nor is the reward small.
