Jesus the Resurrection and Life

The heathen captain knew the routine of crucifixion. The condemned were first spitting and cursing, with their strength slowly abating, causing death. Now, on horseback, he stood eye to eye with the dying Jesus! “Jesus cried with a loud voice and breathed his last.” “Loud voice” means He still had plenty of energy. What were Christ’s last words from the cross? “Father into your hands I command my spirit!” (Mk 15:37—39) Jesus did not die of exhaustion or of a broken heart. HE DIED BY HIS OWN COMMAND! He had said “I have power to lay down my life…” (John 10: 17+18) The captain’s revelation and conclusion was: This Jesus is the Son of God! Trust in Jesus brings peace with God! Hallelujah.
